New US Section 301 Tariff Update & Considerations for Lighting Importers
US Section 301 Tariff Update: Notes for Lighting Industry Importers

A new Section 301 tariff action related to import enforcement requirements came into effect on July 24, 2026, replacing the previous Section 122 tariff program.

About this tariff measure

The tariff applies at different rates across multiple economies, structured into several rate tiers. Certain product categories are eligible for product-specific exemptions. Existing separate tariff programs (such as Section 232, AD/CVD, and earlier Section 301 measures) remain in force and may apply in addition.

Practical considerations for lighting buyers

For anyone importing LED luminaires, lamps and related lighting products into the US market, we recommend the following checks before placing orders:

1. Confirm the exact **HS classification** for your specific lighting product with your customs broker, as tariff treatment depends heavily on HTS code.
2. Verify the applicable tariff rate based on country of origin, and update landed cost calculation accordingly.
3. Prepare full supporting documentation, product certification and supply chain traceability files in advance for customs clearance.
4. If you have projects with tight delivery schedules to the US, we suggest confirming order timeline and incoterms early with our sales team.
