DALI and 0-10V are both popular commercial dimming protocols, but they differ significantly. 0-10V is an analog system where one control wire runs to a group of fixtures, all dimming together. It is simple, low-cost and widely supported, but offers no individual fixture control or feedback. DALI is a digital system where each fixture has a unique address on a shared bus, enabling individual control, grouping, scenes, scheduling and status feedback. DALI requires more complex commissioning and costs 30-50% more for hardware and installation. For simple on/off or group dimming (e.g., a single warehouse zone), 0-10V is sufficient and cost-effective. For offices, hospitals and smart buildings needing individual control, flexibility and energy monitoring, DALI is the better choice. DALI-2 also standardizes sensor integration, making it more future-proof.
