What Is DALI Lighting Control and How Does It Work?
DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a two-way digital communication protocol for lighting control. Each DALI driver has a unique address (1-64 per line), allowing individual fixture control, grouping and scene setting via a single low-voltage control bus. Unlike 0-10V (one control signal per group), DALI enables each fixture to respond independently to commands, sensors and timers. DALI-2, the latest version, adds standardization for sensors, input devices and application controllers. Benefits include precise dimming (0.1-100%), status feedback, energy monitoring, and easy reconfiguration without rewiring. DALI is ideal for offices, hospitals, museums and smart buildings where individual control and flexibility are needed. It costs more than 0-10V but offers superior functionality and long-term flexibility.
